Protein Waffles?

Good morning!  I wasn't able to get my Push 1 done last night like I had hoped, but I got up this morning and got it done.  Today is the day I am going to break in my treadmill!  So exciting right?!  I know, don't be jelly. Of course it'll be much later today, have some errands to run this morning which include a trip to the vet for Lucy.  She's been moping around all morning, how does she know we are going to the vet but doesn't know to not get water all over the floor when she gets a drink?

This morning the girls had their favorite breakfast

These waffles just so happen to be wheat and gluten free, nobody in the house actually has an intolerance, we just want to fit in.  Actually, I like the Van's brand because they have a short list of ingredients.  Plus you can get them at Winco for under 2$ a box so they aren't badly priced.  Kind of a no brainer really.  We don't love the blueberry as much as the other flavors, but they still scarf them down!

On Saturday when Katie and I were doing our long run we started to talk about how difficult it is to know if the food choices your making are actually healthy or not.  There is so much conflicting information out there about what to eat/avoid/set on fire its hard to keep track.  For instance I would like to add more protein to my diet since I am working on building lean muscle.  Well how much should I be eating, I literally have no idea.  Katie also told me about an ultra runner who is a "fruitarian" he eats ONLY fruit.  People can go a little crazy I think and I just want to find the right balance for the workouts I am doing.  I am going to do some research today into the all of the different diet fads out there and hopefully find an answer to my protein question.

Do you ever get overwhelmed with all of the different nutrition information out there?
-It seems to be always changing, one minute coffee will kill you the next its saving your life...really people?

  1. Nutrition is super over whelming. especially listening to a lot of podcasts, everyone has their own theories. But what I'm doing seems to work for me, and I will always try to make the healthy choice, but sometimes I make mistakes! But I work hard so I can make those mistakes and it's not the end of the world! Of course that doesn't mean pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but the occasional slice or two isn't gonna sabotage everything I've already accomplished!
But I eat the egg yolks, and I like butter and salt and cheese. And I still feel I'm healthier than most people I know! So I think I have found my balance and am not going to stress if having some eggs with cheese isn't the healthiest choice! Everything in moderation is my theory!

    1. People are always really afraid of egg yolks and I guess I can understand avoiding them if you have high cholesterol or another issue like that, but otherwise there is nothing wrong with an egg yolk LOL! Life is balance, you can be so healthy that it becomes unhealthy.

  2. I agree with Katie!! Life is too short to not eat that occasional pizza slice or that bite of ice cream one of your kiddos offer you. I always eat my egg whites with a little yoke in them and a big fat slice of swiss cheese melted in. On your protein question, I eat my weight in protein on lift days, and 15-20 less on non weight days. I've heard .75-1 gram per weight. So if you weigh 100 (using this number because I don't feel like doing math in my head :-P ) than 75-100 grams of protein would be good. I eat a lot of Greek yogurt and protein bars! They've become my BBF's LOL

  4. Just eat fruits? That sounds super crazy! As much as I love fruit (can eat a whole watermelon by myself), I don't think I can eat just fruits all the time.

I totally wish I can have a nutritionist that makes my meals for me and tells me how much to eat. I think my portion sizes are out of whack. I keep telling myself to try and eat what SELF magazine has laid out, but I always forget.

    1. I love fruit too, but I find myself more of a veggie girl lately and get my fruit mostly in my smoothie. A nutritionist would be amazing! I think becoming a nutritionist would be something I could look into in the far future but more school freaks me out! LOL!
