Dreadmill Time

Good morning!  I just finished my CLX Burn 1, I decided against a run because I am feeling a little burnt out and think I needed this morning to just be easy.  Nothing on the agenda today except for dinner tonight with Katie so I am really looking forward to that.  I've been on Craigslist looking for a cheap dreadmill treadmill.  As much as I don't want one in my house and I even more do not want to run on one its becoming a necessary evil for me to be able to get in some of my runs.  Blah.  I've found a few for $50 which is the price I would like to stick to so if you know of anyone getting rid of theirs I just might be their girl!

Breakfast!  Because I am sure you are all dying to know about my breakfast.  This is what I usually have, depending on my starvation level its either one egg or two.  I try to make breakfast one of my larger meals if I have the time and/or the groceries.

Toast, hummus, avocado, tomato and egg.

The Portland Marathon really seems to be sneaking up on me and since its my first marathon I just really had no idea what to expect.  Running the actual mileage isn't the problem, I want to get out there and get to my high numbers, the issue is time.  I don't think I'll sign up for a fall marathon like this again, it is about impossible to get in the training runs you need during the summer.  Summer itself is a busy time and then if you add in Jess having to travel for work it really creates a scheduling issue.  So that is the main reason for my need to get a treadmill.  I really dislike the idea of having one in my house, we live in a cottage, seriously people's apartments are bigger than our house!  But I'll move out my desk if I have to.  I know I could go the babysitter route, but honestly that just doesn't sit all that well with me.  Plus by the time I paid the sitter to come for one long run I would have already paid the price for a used treadmill.  It all comes back to having my need/want for a running life to not completely disrupt my family life.  It is what it is and this issue is a small little spec in the universe of other's people problems, lets be real.  Also today I am announcing the winner to my Giveaway, if you haven't entered yet go here and get yourself in the running!  I'll let you know who won tonight before I head to dinner with Katie!

Do you have treadmill?  Do you use it, or it is a coat rack?

How you do manage your long runs and family commitments?

  1. I use my dreadmill in winter months when it's too nasty outside or too cold and icy. It's nice to have, but it's pretty boring!! I find myself just starring at the time thinking "is it over yet?"
But good for those times you can't get outside! Even if it's just a 15 minute quick run!
Training is hard especially in the summer months. There is so much other stuff going on you REALLY have to make it a priority, and even then, it's hard to get every training run in! But anything is better than nothing!

    1. Yes, anything is better than nothing! And nothing will start becoming my other option the way we are going. It'll become my necessary evil, but I'll be grateful for it when there are no other options!

  2. I know some people call it a dreadmill, but it is the only way for me to run much of the time. The roads out here are way too dangerous to run on, and it's not worth risking life and limb, so... I <3 my treadmill.

My two bits. Make sure you get a treadmill with a belt long enough for your stride. If it's too short it will drive you crazy, it will never get used, and it will just be a waste of money. Good luck! :)

  3. I've been wanting one too Dani!! Can't really afford it at the moment but i'm hoping before Halloween to have a treadmill and CLX! It's been hard enough as it is to keep myself motivated to run in the summer so i KNOW if i let it go all winter cause i don't wanna run outside i'll lose running forever. And this is something i really don't want to give up. Plus it WILL help with your problem as well...family time =) <3 Jen

  5. While it's not my favorite way to get in a run, a treadmill certainly makes life easier sometimes! As a work-at-home mom of five kids, my treadmill gets lots of use. I run out side whenever I can, but when I know evenings are going to be too busy, I get in a daytime run on the treadmill. For instance today - as soon as work is over we are off to the pool - oldest 3 have swim team, and then youngest 2 have lessons... by the time we get home from the pool it will be about 7:15, and then I have to get groceries and go sneaker shopping for the twins, and start getting packed for our upcoming 2 week vacation... SOOO, treadmill run on my lunch break it is! And while other people often disagree with me, a treadmill is an AWESOME way to get in speed work. If I'm at the track, I will often give up early or let my pace slip. If you're on the treadmill, there is no slowing down, just run like heck until the interval is over!

    1. I agree with you, its going to take some getting use to but I think having a treadmill will help me keep my mileage up since it won't require me leaving the house. I cannot even imagine trying to do anything with 5 kids...its hard enough with my 2! Way to go!
