Every Mother Counts

Good afternoon, I hope everyone's Tuesday is shaping up nicely.  On Tuesday mornings I have a helper come in and stay with the girls while I run errands that are difficult with two busy 3 year olds, things like shipping antique plates to my MIL in Montana for instance :)  I also try and squeeze in a little "me" time while she is here by either doing a long run or working on my blog.  This time the blog won out!  I've been wanting to share with all of you something I've been learning about and first was introduced to through one of my running magazines.  Its an organization called Every Mother Counts that was founded by Christy Turlington Burns who is a Mother/Model and also Directed and Produced the documentary No Woman, No Cry.

Christy was featured in the magazine because she had just completed the New York City ING Marathon which she ran as part of the team Every Mother Counts.  I read the article about her and the organization she had founded and thought it was interesting, I passed the magazine onto my girlfriend and didn't think about it again.  Then a few weeks later I was killing time while I waited to pick up my mom from the airport and went to Starbucks to get an iced coffee.  While I was waiting I was looking through their CDs they have for sale and saw they had one with the title Every Mother Counts...this caught my eye!

I picked it up and bought it without knowing if I would like it or not, 8$ of the $12.95 price goes to the support of Every Mother Counts, that is a pretty large portion.  When I put it in my CD player in my car I immediately liked the first song and every song after that, it is a really great CD!  All of the songs encompass motherhood, which is obviously very close to my heart.  Now that I've been listening to the CD its gotten me even more interested in this organization and everything it stands for.  I could tell you all about the organization, but I wouldn't do it justice.  In a nut shell they are working towards proper pre-natal and post-natal care for mother and baby.  So many mothers and babies will die during child birth because they don't have access to the advanced care that a lot of us take for granted.  You can read all about their short history on their website or their blog, there is also a place where you can purchase the CD if you can't find it at your local Starbucks.

Since I am a mother myself I am really interested in learning more and becoming part of this organization in some small way.  I am going to continue doing my research and sharing with you all of the exciting and important work they are doing for mothers worldwide.  I am going to try and find her documentary, No Woman No Cry, so I can sit down and watch it in the next few evenings.  After I watch it I'll post a review for all of you and also let you know where I was able to find it.

Has anyone else heard of this organization?
