Good morning!  We were suppose to be having a really nice week according to last Friday...but yesterday and today are back to June Gloom.  Yesterday morning was suppose to be a 30/e run but I missed it.  Monday was a typical Monday full of too much going on and no where to fit in the run...oh well, it was one of those things, moving on from it.  I made sure to get up this morning even with my alarm failing to go off...weird...and headed out for the 7(60x60) that was on the agenda.

It was a good speed work run, I ran hard and pushed my legs to take longer strides which at times made me feel like I was going to fall on my face, HA!  But I didn't, so that is good!  My legs have been sore lately and tight so taking yesterday off was probably a good thing, even though it made me sad.

On Sunday, Father's Day, the 4 of us went up to Copper Mountain Nature Park in Beaverton to go Geocaching.  If you've never gone Geocaching (like us) the website defines it as a real-world outdoor treasure hunting game.  Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices and then share their experiences online.

They have geocaches everywhere, we will be in the Tetons later this month and are going to see if we can find one while we are there.  Sarah was in charge of the map and notes and Katherine just really enjoyed being along for the ride.  We took the wagon because it would be a lot of walking/hiking for 3 year olds.  It was a really nice 75 degree day, although as we got going it seemed to get hotter and hotter and the wagon seemed to start getting heavier.  But I am sure that was just our imagination :)

We found 5 geocaches while were there, which was so fun!  Some are really small, similar to a size of chapstick.  Those just have a small pieces of paper rolled up inside that you pull out and sign and date.  The bigger ones are like old ammo boxes and have all sorts of trinkets inside.  If you take something always put something of equal value back.  We took a couple little matchbox cars and some little toys horses to trade.  We also brought along my super cool Polaroid camera and snapped a picture to put inside one of the geocaches.

The park was beautiful and while we were there I saw quite a few runners which is always fun!  I really want to go back sometime and do a run.  It has a lot of hills and we walked a good 4-5 miles of trails so it would be an awesome run to do with a buddy for sure.  Oh Katie & Sharol?!  The day was a huge success and although I admit I was a little eh about geocaching, we had a blast!  The girls loved finding the boxes and seeing all of the cool little trinkets hidden inside.

Has anyone else ever went geocaching?  Where did you go?

We saw there are even some on a trail that Jess and I frequent when we are in Montana, going to check those out on our next visit!

  1. too cool! Our family runs and geocaches! There are tons of caches of all levels, and it's a great activity to do with kids. There are caches to find nearly everywhere you go. Enjoy!

    1. It was so much fun, really looking forward to doing it again!
